The Prince of Darkness, Richard Gere, and Stephen Dorff

More details of my remake of John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness have been announced. Namely, my leading men: Richard Gere and Stephen Dorff. Those of you who have seen the original can probably figure out what characters they are playing, as the cast of characters is pretty similar to the original, although updated and in some cases re-imagined. I have sent Harry Stark a more polished version of the script, in which I attempt to distance myself a little more from Carpenter's vision, and also try to elaborate a tad more on some concepts. The actors portraying the three other primary roles have yet to be announced, but I don't think the names will disappoint.

It might seem weird to cast someone based on a couple of 30-year-old performances, but that's exactly what I did with Richard Gere. His performances in "Days of Heaven" and "American Gigalo" are the primary reasons I wanted to work with him. As for Stephen Dorff, I think that his performance as Deacon Frost in "Blade" is probably the most underrated comic book villain role to date and he's due for a comeback with Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," so I decided to jump on the Stephen Dorff train sooner rather than later.
